Casey Stengel Casey Stengel

Manager New York Yankees 1948-1960.

As a manager Casey Stengel has no equal! Stengel's Yankees won the World Series the first five years that he managed them and they won 10 pennants and seven world series in 12 years. He was a real leader of men and a colorful character. Casey was always in the spotlight in the 1950's, and took a lot of pressure off of his great Yankee teams.

In 1962, Stengel became the Mets skipper in their first year as an expansion team. They ended with the worst record in baseball history; going 40-120. The next two years were not much better as they won only 51 and 53 games. Old Casey Stengel was a popular figure with the Mets fans; joining them whenever he could; and attending public functions promoting baseball. Old Casey Stengel, baseball fans miss you.
