Philadelphia Athletics vs New York Giants - Christy Mathewson tossed three shutouts - Baseball History

The 1905 Philadelphia Athletics had three 20 game winners during the regular season- Rube Waddell, Eddie Plank, and Andy Coakley.

The New York Giants had Christy Mathewson, with a 31-9 record an ERA of 1.28 and Joe McGinnity, 21-15 with a 2.87 ERA.  

The Giants, Christy Mathewson started the first game, the third game and the fifth game and threw three straight shutouts.

The Athletics won the second game behind Chief Bender 3-0, the Athletics scored 3 unearned runs off of McGinnity. Joe Iron Man McGinnity pitched a shutout in game four. The World Series lasted only five games and the two Giants' pitchers, Christy Mathewson and Joe McGinnity did not allow an earned run in leading the Giants to the World Championship and pitched five complete games.
