| Quote from an old newspaper clipping, Oct. 1, 1916, after the New York Giants had their 26 game winning streak broken. "From every quarter of the big city hero worshippers flocked to the baseball park firm in belief that the machine built by John McGraw would remain invincible. The belief grew to conviction after the first game of a doubleheader with Boston, in which the Braves were shut out and the twenty-sixth straight victory perched on the home team's banner by the score of 4-0. Then came a shock as great as the fall of Troy, when the heavy hitters from the hub came back in the second with a terrific bombardment which buried the Giants under an avalanche of eight runs, to three collected by the home contingent." The New York Giants set the still-unbroken major league record by winning 26 games in-a-row. Photos of Famous Baseball Players
