October 17, 1979, World Series

Game 7: Willie Stargell hit a massive two-run sixth inning homer to pace the Pittsburgh Pirates to a 4-1win and the World Championship. Bucs' Grant Jackson got the win in relief while Orioles star pitcher Scott McGregor is tagged with the loss. In the 1979 World Series, the 'Lumber Company' of Pittsburgh put on a mighty hitting display with five Pirates each collecting 10 hits or more. They are: Willie Stargell, Tim Foli, Omar Moreno, Phil Garner and Dave Parker. Phil Garner hit .500 and Stargell .400 and he hit the Pirates only three HR's. Stargell had seven RBI's and the Pirates' ace reliever, Kent Tekulve picked up three saves. baseballhistorian.com - World Series 1979 - Baseball History
