Lee Mazzilli, Pittsburgh Pirates, OF 1B DH, Switch-hitter T RH - raised in New York, he is the son of a Libero Mazzilli, a welterweight boxers... Lee Mazzilli debuted with the New York Mets back in '76. The good-looking, popular player's best season was '79 when he batted .303, lined 34 doubles, 4 triples, 15 homers and scored 78 runs... played with the Mets until 1981... for the Pirates in 1985, Mazzilli was used mainly as a utility OF/1B and pinch-hitter, hitting .282 in 117 at bats, 92 games. Career Stats: .259 BA, 1,068 hits in 4,124 at bats, 191 Ds, 24 Ts, 93 Hr, 571 Runs, 460 RBIs, 642 Walks, 627 Ks, 197 stolen bases, CS 90 times. Mets 1976-81; 1987-89; Rangers 1982; Yankees 1982; Pirates 1983-86.

Damaso Garcia, Toronto Blue Jays, SS, 2B, 3B RH - born and raised in Moca, Dominican Republic... a slap hitter and high-speed on the base paths were his trade marks... signed with the Yankees as a 18-year old back in '75... after debuting with Yankees and playing only 29 games spanning two seasons, '78-79, was traded to Toronto in Nov of '79, Damaso Garcia blossomed into one of the best all-around infielders in the American League... in 1985, hit .282, lined 25 doubles, stole 28 bases, scored 70 runs. 1985 World Series - ROYALS WIN, ROYALS WIN!

After losing the first two Series games, the underdog Kansas City Royals knocked off the St. Louis Cardinals in the seven game World Series.

Game 7: The Royals smashed 14-hits, 11-runs off seven Cardinal pitchers, and Bret Saberhagen hurled a nifty five-hitter, to win 11-0, and bring the Kansas City Royals their first-ever World Championship.

Greg Gross, Philadelphia Phillies, OF 1B, Left-handed - debuted with the Houston Astros in '74 and was named 'The Sporting News' National League Rookie of the Year, hit .314 and scored 78 runs... Greg Gross never hit lower than .286 in his first six years in the big-leagues... the 5'11", 170-pounder was a great contact hitter, and drew twice as many walks in most seasons than striking out... and batted over .300 five times in his career. In 1984 his 6th season with the Phillies, hit .322 and in 1985 the veteran of 13 seasons was one of the league's top pinch hitters. Career Stats: .287 BA, 1,073 hits in 3,745 at bats, 130 Ds, 46 Ts, 7 Hr, 449 Runs, 308 RBIs, 523 Walks, 250 Ks, an outstanding .375 on/base/pct.
