Ichiro lined the second pitch from Rays starter James Shields (2-2 with a 3.67 ERA) for a homer, the game’s only run. James Shields surrendered only 3 other hits and walked one while striking out 4 in his 7.1 innings on the mound. During the last week, the media has been writing a lot about Suzuki and whether he will be voted into America baseball Hall of Fame. We think the question should be, how soon after retiring should he go into the Hall. The victory was before a Thursday crowd of 17,639 in Seattle. Mariners reliever David Aardsma picked up his first Hold of the season - allowed no-hits and struck out 2-of the-3 batters he faced.
