Hal Morris had a sterling 1990 Rookie Season Hal Morris opened the 1990 season with the Reds, but was demoted to Class AAA Nashville on May 30 after hitting .222 in only 27 at bats. He played in 16 minor league games and hit .344 and returned to Cincinnati on June 18. He batted 282 timesthis season and put up a robust .351 during the rest of season - and a .340 for the 1990 year. In the past 50 years, only two other players came into the league with higher first-year averages: Wade Boggs (.349) and Dan Gladden (.351). Hal Morris hit real good in the postseason of 1990, and he hit Pirates pitchers for a .417 average in the National League Championship Series; three of his five hits came in Game 4.
