Atlanta – Saturday 4.09.2011 before 36,256 In a battle of NL East Division rivals, the visiting Philadelphia Phillies rode the hot-hitting of Carlos Ruiz to a 10-2 victory over the Atlanta Braves Normally the Phillies starting catcher, Carlos Ruiz came off the bench and entered the batter’s box as a pinch-hitter in the top of the 7th inning with the bases loaded and Phils leading 4-2. He blasted a fastball of reliever Scott Linebrink for a grand slam home run, putting Philadelphia up 8-2. And for good measure, the next inning Carlos Ruiz lined a RBI double off Christhian Martinez. Carlos Ruiz finished with a career high 5 RBI. Phillies starting pitcher Roy Oswalt (2-0) chalked up the win, working 6 innings, yielding 5 hits, and 2 runs, only one earned run. Braves starter Brandon Beachy (0-1) pitched 6 innings, allowed 4 innings. The Phillies collected 15 hits, including 6 doubles- cf Shane Victorino, 1b Ryan Howard, lf Raul Ibanez, Carlos Ruiz and two by ss Jimmy Rollins, plus 2 homers by their catchers – Brian Schneider and Carlos Ruiz. Leadoff hitter Shane Victorino had a 4 hit game for Phillies. He was 4 for 5, stole his 2nd base of season, scored twice and had a RBI. Atlanta batters had just 6 hits.
