Diamondbacks win 7th straight, topple Marlins 15-4 on May 30, 2011

 

Arizona with 23,465 Attendance

 

The streaking Arizona Diamondbacks scored early and often en-route to a 15-4 victory over the Florida Marlins. The Diamondbacks delighted hometown fans with five homers as they jumped to an 11-4 lead after 6 innings.

 

D’backs starter Joe Saunders worked 6 innings, gave up 7 hits, all 4 of the Marlins runs while striking out 7 and walking 2. While Marlins starter Chris Volstad was tagged for 4 homers, Kelly Johnson (8th), Miguel Montero (6th) Justin Upton (10th) and outfielder Gerardo Parra (4th). Kelly Johnson hit his 12th double and later hit his 2nd home run of the game (9th). 

 

For Arizona, batting 3rd, right-fielder Justin Upton got 5 hits in 5 at bats, a double and homer, scored 3 runs and had 3 RBI. Leadoff batter, 2B Kelly Johnson got 4 hits in 6 trips to the batters box, 3 R and 3 RBIs. SS Stephen Drew was 2-3 with 3 runs and catcher Miguel Montero was 3-for-5, scored once and had a career-high 5 RBIs.

 

Marlins starter Chris Volstad fell to 2-4 for 2011. He pitched just 3.1 innings, 8 hits, 5 runs, 2 Ks, 1 W. Five Florida relievers followed, Burke Badenhop, Randy Choate, Brandon Webb, Michael Dunn and Leo Nunez.

 

Florida was led by cleanup hitter, first baseman Gaby Sanchez, who hit his 8th homer of the season. He had 2 hits in 4 at bats, scored one and had 3 RBIs. 2B Omar Infante had 3 hits in 5 at bats, scored one run.

 

Arizona starter left-hander Joe Saunders improved his 2011 record to 2-5, The Marlins used 3 relievers, Esmerling Vasquez 1 hit, 1w in 1 inning, Micah Owings 1w in 1 inning and Zach Kroenke 1 hit, 1w, 1 K in 1 innings. Zach Kroenke made his major league debut last year, on September 10, 2010, and was 1-0 in 3 games, one start, 2 relief efforts.
