The visiting Los Angeles Dodgers got a rude welcome in the City of Brotherly Love and lost 2 of the 3 baseball games played. 

 

Game 1 Monday before 45,777 in Philadelphia

 

Starting pitcher Cliff Lee stymied Los Angeles batters to lead the Phillies to a 3-1 victory opening game win. RBI singles off LA starter Ted Lilly (4-5 with a 4.13 ERA) by third baseman Placido Polanco and first baseman Ryan Howard in the 3rd inning put the Phils up 2-0. LA reliever Blake Hawsworth (2.95 ERA) pitched a scoreless 8th. Catcher Carlos Ruiz helped Philadelphia increase its lead to 3-0 with a RBI double off reliever James McDougald (2.21 ERA) in the eight.

 

The win by Cliff Lee (5-5 with a 3.62 ERA) was his 3 in 4 starts. He worked 7 shutout innings, yielded 7 hits, walked one and notched 10 strikeouts (Ks). Antonio Bastardo struck out one, no runs in the 8th and Ryan Madison chalked up his 13th save of 2011. He gave up a hit in the 9th to Dodgers third baseman Juan Uribe, who Dee Gordon pinch-ran for. Dee Gordon scored the Dodgers only run on a hit by Andre Ethier.  

 

Game 2 Tuesday

 

Los Angeles Dodgers jumped on the bandwagon with a 4-1 lead after just 3 innings and rolled to a 6-2 victory over the Phillies. Four LA pitchers limited the power-bats of Philadelphia to just 5 hits. Dodgers centerfielder Matt Kemp belted a 2-run homer in the 8th to help rookie pitcher Rubby De La Rosa (2-0) who pitched 5 innings, allowed 4 hits, 1 run, win his first career start. Blake Hawksworth followed and pitched a scoreless 6th.  Matt Guerrier pitched two thirds of an inning, allowed 1 run, Scott Elbert struck out one in 1.1 innings, and Javy Guerra pitched a scoreless 9th.

 

Dee Gordon, LA shortstop and leadoff batter, led all players with 3 hits in 5 trips to the plate, scored one run. Matt Kemp also hit a double and scored twice. Phillies starting pitcher Roy Oswalt (3-4 with a 3.05 ERA) gave up 8 hits, 4 runs, 2 walks, 1 K in 6 innings, and was the losing pitcher. Final Score LA wins 6-2.

 

Game 3 Wednesday

 

Phillies defeat Dodgers 2-0 as Cole Hamels allowed 6 hits thru 8 innings and improved his 2011 record to 8-2 and reliever Ryan Madison notched his 14th save. The winning Phillies collected just 5 hits off 4 LA pitchers, starter Hiroki Kuroda gave up 4 with one run in 5.1 innings and was the loser.

Ryan Howard of Philadelphia whacked his 13th homer off loser Hiroki Kuroda who fell to 5-7 but has a fine 3.35 ERA. Ryan Howard has 48 RBI second highest in the NL trailing only Prince Fielder of Milwaukee, 49.

 

The Phillies have the best record in the majors, 37-25, a .597 pct. The Dodgers have a 29-34 record, 4th place in the NL West.
