Cardinals top Royals on homer by Matt Holiday on June 18, 2011

INTERLEAGUE GAME

Took a Walk on Saturday nite to Busch Ballpark to see what was going on. Had a hot dog and a cold drink and watched the Redbirds beat the Royals 5 to 4 as left fielder Matt Holliday smacked a 2 run shot in the last of the eight with the Cardinals losing 4 to 3. The win put an end to the Cardinals 7 game losing streak before 43,102 fans.

The homer by Matt Holliday was his eight of 2011 and came off reliever Greg Holland , who had a stingy 1.17 ERA for the season. Greg Holland fell to 1 W and 1 L. The Royals starter Vin Mazzaro pitched okay for 6 innings, allowing 7 hits, 3 runs and yielded 2 walks while fanning 2 Redbirds.

Starter Jake Westbrook kept the Cardinals in the game for the 7 innings he pitched, giving up 8 hits, 4 runs, 4 Ks, 1 W. Reliever Trever Miller retired the first batter in the eight, and winning pitcher Jason Motte got 2 batters out in the eight and was credited with the win. Jason Motte now has a 3 Wins and 1 Loss record. Fastballer Fernando Salas notched a perfect ninth and has 12 saves in 13 tries.
