Cincinnati beats Atlanta 4-1
Paced by four solo homers, two by centerfielder Drew Stubbs (4th and 5th), one by leadoff hitter/shortstop Zack Cozart (4th) and Reds starting pitcher Mike Leake (1st), the Cincinnati Reds defeated the Atlanta Braves 4 -1 on Monday. Braves starter Mike Minor (2-4 wins/losses) yielded all 4 homers during his 6 innings on the mound.
The Reds blasted three consecutive homers with the bases empty in the 4th inning. Mike Leake homered, then Zack Cozart and Drew Stubbs, putting Cincinnati up 4-1. Stubbs also homered in the first inning.
Mike Leake pitched a standout game, allowing just 2 hits, one run, 1 walk, 6 Ks in 8 full innings. Juan Francisco starting at third baseman in place of Chipper Jones, hit his 4th homer of 2012 in the top of the second for the Braves only run.
Reliever Jose Arredono walked 2 and struck out one in the 9th before reliever Sean Marshall came in with 2 men on retired the next two Braves hitters.
