Bob Friend, Pitcher - Pittsburgh Pirates


Bob FriendBob Friend, Mainstay of the Pirates in the 1950's. Pitched over 200 innings per year for 11 straight seasons. Led the National League in 1955 with a 2.83 ERA.  On Sept. 14, & Sept. 19, 1954, Friend pitched two consecutive shutouts against the Chicago Cubs and Brooklyn Dodgers. His 1-0, six hit performance against Brooklyn, crushed the Dodgers hopes of winning the pennant.  Bob was a mound stalwart on the second division Pirates, usually the team with the worst record in the NL. Friend won over 150 games in the '50's.
