Bill Buckner Outfielder & 1B

Bill BucknerBill Buckner, OF & 1B, Los Angeles Dodgers 1970-76, Chicago Cubs 1977-84.  An excellent hitter who provided fans with many thrilling moments as he battled the opposing pitchers. Buckner played in the major leagues over 20 years and batted over .300 in seven different years.

As a Chicago Cub, Buckner's .324 batting average in 1980 led the national league. Fourteen (14) different seasons his fielding average was over .990; Buckner ended with an outstanding career fielding pct. of .992 ( a high mark in the annuals of baseball history).  He played in the outfield but in 1976 he injured his ankle and was traded to the Chicago Cubs.  The Cubs placed Buckner at first base, where he excelled at scooping up grounders and grabbing hard line drives.  Highlights of his career include a .289 lifetime batting mark in over 2,500 games.  Buckner smashed 2715 hits, over 1200 RBI's, stole 183 bases and scored over 1,000 runs.

Bill Buckner was a favorite of the fans in the early 1970's while playing for the LA Dodgers and was one of the Cubs' leading all-around players in the late 1970's and early 1980's.  Thanks for being a class performer, we salute your efforts.
