Oscar Gamble, OF, Phil (NL), Clev, NY (AL), WSox, SD, &
Tex
Original
Rent-A-Player, teams traded this likable player so often that
fans couldn't keep up to which team he was playing for.
Before the 1970 season, Gamble was traded to the Phillies;
next, in 1973 he went to the Indians. There he hit 20
homers in 390 at bats, with a .330 on base pct. The
following year, Oscar Gamble smacked 16 doubles, 19 homers,
batted .291, and had a .365 on base pct. Traded to the
Yankees in 1976, Oscar's bat made him a hero-for-the year,
as he responded with key game winning hits that helped the
Yankees take the AL East Crown. Before the 1977 season, he
was traded to the White Sox. Gamble really got hot;
hitting 22 doubles, 31 HR's, 83 RBI's, batted .297, on base
pct of .387 and had a top slugging pct of .588. The
White Sox fans cheered this pleasant ballplayer as he delivered
many game winning home runs and liked his all around hustling.
In 1978, Gamble decided to become a free agent and grab some
big bucks. He signed with the Padres, who traded him after
one year to the Texas Rangers.
