McGwire - St. Louis Cardinals
Opening
Day - 1998. Mark McGwire of the St. Louis Cardinals, homered
off of Dodgers' pitcher Ramon Martinez. McGwire then hit homers
for four straight games as he began his attack of the record
books. He slugged 27 homers by the end of May and had 50 on
August 20; to become the first player in baseball history
to hit 50 in 3 straight years. He smashed all records as he
hit an amazing 70 for the year. McGwire had a year all baseball
fans will long remember.
