1970's. Super Star during this decade; Nettles hit for
power along with a fine batting average. Playing for the Cleve.
Indians in 1970, he hit 26 homers, scored 81 runs and in 1971,
he slugged 28 homers. Graig Nettles had a tremendous ability
to make sensational diving catches and somehow threw out the
base runners. Traded to the Yankees in 1973, Nettles
blossomed into a great all-around player. In
the ten years of the 70's, Graig smashed 252 home runs and
in 1976 this All-Star hit 32 long shots with 93 RBI's, and
the following season he hit 37 homers with 107 RBI's.
Graig Nettles great all-around play won many games for the
Yankees. In 1978, he hit 27 homers in the regular season and
his .333 batting average in the playoffs carried the Yankees
into the world series. Graig Nettles ranks in the top ten
for 3rd. basemen in this century.
