Scott was a first class fielding 1st baseman who was honored
with eight "Gold Glove" Awards between 1967-1976.
In 1966 his rookie year, Scott hit .247, with 27 HR's, 90
RBI's and also led the league by striking out 152 times.
His following season, 1967, he hit .303, 19 HR's, 82 RBI's
and his SO totals dropped to 119. His hitting along
with his "Gold Glove" fielding helped the Red Sox
win the American League pennant. In 1968, George Scott's batting
average dropped to .171, with only 3 HR's, 25 RBI's in 124
games. By 1970, his average was back up to .296, with 16 HR's.
Playing for the Brewers in 1973, he hit .306, 30 Doubles,
24 HR's and 107 RBI's. In 1975, George Scott led the league
in 36 home runs and in RBI's with 109. George Scott lifetime
totals: .268 batting ave., 306 doubles, 60 triples, along
with 271 HR's. He scored 957 runs, had 1051 RBI's in
2034 games. In 1977, the Milwaukee Brewers traded George Scott
back to the Boston Red Sox for at this time, unknown Cecil
Cooper - who later went on to stardom and became one of the
all-time greats in Brewer history.
