Charlie Hargreaves

Then as now, good catchers were held in high regard, and Charlie Hargreaves was durable and a solid defensive and offensive backstop. A career .270 hitter he played his first 5 and a half seasons with the Brooklyn Dodgers, 1923-1928 and then was traded to the Pittsburgh Pirates for outfielder Joe Harris and catcher Johnny Gooch. For Pittsburgh Charlie Hargreaves had three solid seasons, hitting .285, .268, and .268. In 1929 and 1930 he caught 99 games and 102.
