Baseball Historian Biography

1950 Bowman Baseball Card #218 – Words on back of Card as follows: Born: Sutherland Nebraska on March 13 1922 – 6-ft 3-inches, 205 lbs. During Cliff Mapes’ first two seasons in baseball – 1940 and ’41 – he played the infield and outfield, pitched and caught. Settled on being an outfielder in ’42. On Cleveland’s roster when he entered the service in 1944. Returned to baseball in ’46 with Seattle and Wilkes Barre. First donned a Yankee uniform in 1948.
