Mark McGwire pushed the limited of home run hitting during his 16 major league seasons. As a rookie with the Oakland Athletics in 1987 his 49 homers set a rookie record for home runs. In 1997 he hit a total of 58 homers playing with the A’s, 105 games, and with the Cardinals, 51 games. His 58 long balls along with his 52 round-trippers the season before was a record for consecutive seasons by a right-handed swinger, it broke the 2-season record of 107 set by Jimmie Foxx in 1932-1933. ‘Big Red’ McGwire also smashed the record books in 1998 and 1999 with his 70 and then 65 home runs.
