John Morrill Infielder, 1B, OF, C , 5 ft 10 inches, 155 lbs Right handed A gifted athlete, Honest John Morrill was one of the best baseball players during the latter part of the 1880s. Played 15 major league seasons, 1876-1900 the first 13 years with the Boston Red Stocking (later called the Braves) of the NL. Five times with Boston he batted over .280 and twice hit over .300, including .319 in 1883. John Morrill took over as player manager at age 27 of the Boston club, 1882-1888. Managed and played with the Washington Nationals of the NL in 1889 and played just two games with Boston of the Pioneer in 1890. |
