An excellent fielder and a line drive hitter, Bobby Richardson was one of the most popular New York Yankees during the late-1950 and early-1960s. He won Gold Gloves five consecutive seasons (1961 thru 1965) and during that time led the American League in double plays four times and in putouts twice. His 136 double plays in 1961 is one and the highest totals in baseball history. A career .266 hitter, Richardson excelled in World Series' play. In the 1960 World Series, he lined 11 hits and drove in 12 runs, including a grand slam home run. In the 1961 World Series he batted .391, 9 hits in 23 at bats and in the 1964 WS, he batted .406 and set a record with 13 hits, 2 doubles and 9 singles. His best batting season was 1962 when he hit .302, collected 209 hits, lined 38 doubles and scored 99 runs.
