Marquette, Michigan College Women Baseball History Blog and Stories

 

This was a total team effort in tournament play that brought 5 wins to the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point on Friday, Saturday and Sunday  - fine fielding, hitting and pitching

Saurday's Games

 

The Pointers of UW softball team defeated Carroll College in the first game by the score of 8 to 2 and rallied to win the second game 8-4 over Edgewood College.

 

Game 1

UW-Stevens Point freshman starting pitcher Kali Riddell tossed a stellar performance while junior outfielder Alicia Hahnemann drilled a 2-run homer and infielder Paige Meulemans drove in a pair of runs

 

2nd Inning – Kendall Nelson single drove in Alicia Hanemann for the first run of the college softball game. Nelson scored on a Carroll College error – making it 2 – zip.

 

4th Inning

The Pointers padded its lead with four more runs when Paige Meulemans, a junior from Appleton, WI/Kimberly singled in Jordon Schreiner, an outfielder from  Kaukauna, WI/Kaukauna, and first base person Katie Kruger, Plover, WI/SPASH.. Next Hahnemann came up and belted a two-run home run, giving UWSP a 6-0 lead.

Right-hander Kali Riddell had picked up her first college win with a 9-3 win yesterday, 2/22/2003, chaulking up 5 Ks in a complete game (7 innings) over Lake Superior State University.
 
Kali Riddell from Bloomington, IL/University High, dominated for the second consecutive day, striking out 10 batters and allowing just five hits and no earned runs en-route to the win.

 
Alicia Hahnemann, a right-hander, led the Pointers at the plate with the home run, a single and two RBIs.
 

Second Game

UW Pointers rallied from a 4-0 deficit and scored eight unanswered runs to beat Edgewood, 8-4.
 
Edgewood scored a run in the first inning and added three more runs in the top of the fourth to take the 4-0 lead heading into the bottom frame.
 
In the bottom half of the fourth power-hitting Katie Krueger whacked a two-run home run to cut the deficit to 4-2.  
In the fifth inning the Pointer bats exploded for six runs to put the game in the victory bucket.
 
Kali Riddell picked up the win on the mound, allowing just three hits and striking out four in 5 1/3 innings of work to register her 3rd win without a loss for 2013.
 
UWSP (3-1) will face Milwaukee School of Engineering and Concordia – Wisconsin Sunday afternoon to close out the weekend.

Sunday’s February 24, 2013 Games 

 

Pitcher Kali Riddell picked up 2 more wins to collect 5 wins,  a record for the 6 game round robin

 

Game 1 UW Stevens Point Katie Kruger hit a 2-run homer and pitchers Kali Riddell and Michelle Jones held Milwaukee School of Engineering to a 2-hit, 5 inning shutout as the Pointers rolled to a 10-0 victory.

 

Game 2  - UW-SP topped Concordia of Wisconsin 5-3.

 

2nd inning action saw Katie Shulfer lined a hard triple and Kendall Nelson drove in Shulfer with a hit. Note: Katie Shulfer was red hot – hitting 2 triples and a double in 4 at bats.
