  Screaming Line Drive!

April 18, 1969

Cardinals vs Cubs: Mike Shannon of St. Louis hits a sure double - screaming line drive past third base, the ball bounces fair, hits the umpire on the foot, and rolls to third baseman Ron Santo. The Cardinals' first base coach, Dick Sisler, thinking the ball went on to left field, waves Shannon on towards second base.

Santo picks up the ball throws to first baseman Ernie Banks who throws to second trying to nail the hard running Shannon. Glenn Beckert, playing second, takes the throw and tags Shannon in plenty of time.

But the ball hit the umpire, remember?

What's the Proper Call On This Play?
