Starting pitcher Felix Hernandez works 7 scoreless innings
Seattle – 4.23.2009 by baseball historian
Right fielder Ichiro Suzuki
led off the ballgame with a home run and Felix Hernandez (3-0 with a 3.12 ERA) toss a 4-hitter thru 7.1 innings to pace the AL West leading Seattle Mariners (10-6) to a 1-0 win. Ichiro lined the second pitch from Rays starter James Shields (2-2 with a 3.67 ERA) for a homer, the game’s only run. James Shields
surrendered only 3 other hits and walked one while striking out 4 in his 7.1 innings on the mound.
During the last week, the media has been writing a lot about Suzuki and whether he will be voted into America baseball Hall of Fame. We think the question should be, how soon after retiring should he go into the Hall.
The victory was before a Thursday crowd of 17,639 in Seattle.
Mariners reliever David Aardsma
picked up his first Hold of the season - allowed no-hits and struck out 2-of the-3 batters he faced. Closer Brandon Morrow compiled his 5th
save in 5 attempts in 2009, no-hits, one-walk in the 9th
