Ted Williams - "The Splendid
Splinter"
Left Fielder, Bats: Left, Boston Red Sox 1939-1960;
Born: San Diego, California
Deciding
not to retire and playing until the end of his career in 1961,
any comparisons between some ball player who has played for
3-4 years and Ted Williams is totally unfair. Williams
was a great hitter for 23 years. Only at the end of
his career (once) did he bat below .300. Check out his record,
look at his batting averages, runs scored, homers, RBIs, etc.
Pitchers would avoid pitching to him, hence he drew a huge
amount of walks Vs strikeouts. When Ted Williams came to the
plate the whole infield would shift towards first base. The
third baseman would play shortstop and the second baseman
would play short centerfield.
