In 1949 Byrne's 15-7 record helped the Yankees win the pennant as did his 15-9 mark in 1950. Tommy Byrne hurled in 4 different WS, going 1-1 in 21 innings, 2.53 ERA. He was traded to the St. Louis Browns in 1952 and then traded back to the Bronx Bombers in 1954. Tommy Byrne's return helped the Yankees capture the World Championship in 1955 when he was 16-5, 3.15 ERA and World Titles in 1956 and 1957. Tommy Byrne career: 85-69, ERA 4.11 in 1,362 innings. A fine hitting pitcher, Byrne whacked 14 career homers with 98 RBI's, a .238 batting average. He was used as a pinch-hitter 80 times. |
