Score BB Rookie Card A thinking man’s pitcher, Frank Castillo had good movement on his curve, a fine changeup and decent fastball. He started in the minors in 1987 with Nytheville and fashioned a brilliant 10-1 record with a very nice 2.29 earned run average. He then pitched in Illinois at Geneva and Peoria, and worked his way up the minor league ladder to Iowa AAA before joining the Chicago Cubs in late-June 1991. In his first major league start Frank Castillo stymied Pittsburgh with no runs thru 8 innings before yielding 5-hits and 2-runs. His first win came against the Cardinals onn a complete game 6-hitter. For the 1991 season he was 6-7 for the Cubbies. Frank Castillo pitched for the Cubs through the middle of 1997 when he was traded to the Rockies for minor leaguer Matt Pool. In his 13-year career he won at least ten games four times. |
