Baseball Historian Biography

A defensive stalwart with a quiet personality, Luis Castillo holds the major league record for second basemen with 143 consecutive errorless games set during 2006 and mid 2007, a total of 373 days between errors. His streak busted Ryne Sandberg streak of 123 straight.

Born in the Dominican Republic Luis Castillo was only 22 years old when he helped the Florida Marlins win the 1997 World Baseball Championship. An excellent hitter and base runner, he stole over 45 bases three times during his first seven major league seasons and is hitting .293 after his first 11 major league seasons.
