Last year he ran up a record of 27 stolen bases out of 176 tries; not quite so good as 1932 when he made 38 out of 174, but still good enough to put him on top. 'William Ben Chapman, to give him his full name, was born in Nashville, Tenn., on Christmas day, 1908. He started professional baseball in 1928. After playing around the infield for four seasons he finally settled in outfield, where he now plays. He began regular playing with the Yankees in 1930.
