1968 TOPPS BASEBALL CARD Sonny Jackson could beat most ball players in a foot race. As a rookie he stole a career-high 49 bases in 1966 for the Astros, at the time the most in team history. That season he also set a Astros record with 174 hits and with 160 singles. On October 8, 1967 he was traded to the Atlanta Braves. A highly rated defensive shortstop with great range, Sonny Jackson played for Atlanta until 1974. He started his professional career at age 19 with Modesto where he batted .297 with 172 hits in 579 at bats. Made two minor league All-Star teams. Batted a robust .330 with Oklahoma City in 1965. |
