Hubert Pruett had eye-popping performances during his rookie year in 1922 including a victory on June 12th, when the 5-ft, 10-inch, 165-pounder mixed his fastball with a up-and-down moving screwball for a Browns 7-1 win over the pennant-winning New York Yankees. His pitching achievement in this game featured striking out Babe Ruth three straight times. Nicknamed Shucks, the 21-year-old rookie posted a fine 2.33 earned run average, with a 7-7 record and struck out 70 batters in 119 2/3 innings in his first big league season. After three seasons with the St Louis Browns, Pruett signed with the Philadelphia Phillies in 1927 and went 7-17 for a team that had the worst record in all of the major leagues - 51-103.
