'A man who believes in getting off on the right foot is Dave Roberts, the Tigers' veteran left-hander, who came to Detroit from the Astros during the 1975-76 season. In his first start as a Tiger, Dave turned in a two-hit shutout against the California Angels and went on from there to win 16 decisions, a total exceeded only once in his eight-year major league career. For the Tigers in 1976, Dave made 36 starts to lead the staff and hurled four shutouts during the season to tie Mark Fidrych for top honors in whitewash performances. A post season operation was performed on Dave's right knee to correct a chronic arthritic condition.' All information obtained from the '1977 Detroit Tigers Yearbook' |
