Pete Sommers Catcher Born in Cleveland

Pete Sommers had four solid major league seasons. He was just 21 years old as rookie for New York of the American Association in 1887, had 4 extra base hits among his 21 hits in 116 at bats, and batted .181. Played the next 3 seasons in the more established National League, 1888-1890. Pete Sommers batted .231 and .240 his 1st two years in the NL. Joseph Sommers career: .198 BA, 20 extra base hits in 98 games, 339 at bats. Died at age 41 on July 22 1908.
