I was a right-handed pitcher for the Detroit Tigers and a consistent winner throughout my long career. I started slowly in 1977 but along came 1979 and I led the Tigers in wins, and did so in each of the next eight seasons. I used a fastball, a mean slider and a split-finger fastball to pitch my way into the record books. I won more games in the 1980's than any pitcher in the major leagues. From 1980 to 1988, I made over 30 starts a year; except for the strike shortened 1981 season. In 1984, I pitched a no-hitter vs the White Sox on April 7. In 1986, I was 21-8 a 3.27 ERA and threw 3 straight shutouts. I won two games for the Tigers in the WS vs the Padres as we became Champions of the World.
After 13 full seasons in Detroit, I fled to Minnesota and proceeded to become the main pitching star with a record of 18-12, 3.43 ERA - pitched 10 complete games ( I loved to pitch ) in 246 innings. I beat the Blue Jays twice in the ALCS and then became the MVP of the WS with 2 wins - 1.38 ERA including a 10 inning shutout vs the Braves in the finale game. Then at 37 years old, I went to Toronto in 1992 and set a ML record by starting my 13th straight Opening Day. I led the AL in wins as I posted a 21-6 record and the Blue Jays won the World Series and the next season as well. I finally retired in 1995 with over 250 major league games.
