George 'Hooks' Dauss won more games in a Tiger uniform than any player in Detroit's baseball history. Throwing a remarkable curveball, he posted a stunning 223-182 record, compiled a 3.30 earned run average for a Detroit team that was generally in the American League's second division. Nicked named 'Hooks' or 'Hookey' because of his hard-to-hit curveball, Dauss won 20 games three times, going 24-13 in 1915... 21-9 in 1919... 21-13 in 1923 and won in the doubles figures 14 successive years. A pitching workmaster, he made at least 25 starts 11 straight years and completed over 20 starts seven times. Hooks Dauss career stats: 222-182, a .550 pct, 3.30 ERA. Baseball History |
