Masanori Murakami was the first baseball player from Japan to play in the major leagues. A left-handed reliever, his fastball was in the mid-90s miles per hour. He pitched two years with the San Francisco Giants 1964-1965. His first year he had a 1-0 record with a low 1.80 earned run average in 15 innings, spanning 9 games. In 1965 Masanori Murakami put together a very solid season, going 4-1 in 45 games while striking out 85 batters in 74 1/3 innings. After the season, he returned to Japan after stating he missed his home country. Baseball History |
