Bugs Raymond was ‘one of baseball real characters. A pitching workhorse he posted a 15-25 record in the season prior to being traded to the New York Giants. In 1909 with the Giants he had a very fine 18-12 record, then a 4-11 and a 6-4 record and was released. He pitched in the majors for six seasons and is best known for his crazy antics. Once at lunch a waiter asked him how he threw his famous spitball. ‘I’ll show you how,’ said Raymond. He stood up, picked up a glass of water, wet his fingers, kicked his leg up high and threw the glass of water threw a plate glass window. ‘That’s how it’s done, notice the break,’ shouted a laughing Bugs Raymond. |
