Williams was an excellent fielding leftfielder; making long running catches into foul territory; his good throwing arm made runners on 3rd. base hold their positions and not try and score. Billy Williams was Rookie of the Year in 1961. While playing for the Chicago Cubs, Billy won numerous games with his fielding and line drive hitting. In 1970, he was second to Johnny Bench in the Most Valuable Player Award; while leading the league in hits, 205; runs scored, 137; second in homers, with 42; and second in RBI's, with 129. Billy Williams was always in the Top Ten in batting average and in 1972 won the crown; batting .333, led in Slugging Pct ...606 while hitting 37 home runs and driving in 122 runs; and was second in the MVP Award again to Johnny Bench. This Hall of Famer had a great career and was a very popular player in the Chicago area; lacking playing in the World Series; Billy Williams did not get national fame as other great player received.
