Robin Yount is the only baseball player to win the Most Valuable Player Award as a shortstop (1982) and as a centerfielder (1989). Starting as the Brewers' regular shortshop as an 18-year old, Yount played his entire 20 years with the the Milwaukee Brewers. Yount had a strong arm and great range playing shortstop early in his career and, after a shoulder injury, became an outstanding fielding centerfielder, with good range and a strong arm. His clutch hitting and overall excellent play helped the Brewers in their pennant drives in the 1980's. Yount crashed 3,142 hits - 15th on the all-time list and had a career batting average of .285; scoring over 1600 runs. He got over 200 hits against every major league team and had the most hits of any major leaguer in the 1980s. Yount was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1999. |
