Harmon Killebrew - Minnesota Twins Aug. 11, 1971, Harmon Killebrew hit 2 home runs vs the Baltimore Orioles. The home runs were his 500 & 501 of his career. Killebrew became only the 10th man in
history to perform this feat. The Metropolitan Stadium crowd cheered loud and long for their popular star.
Four Twenty Game Winners - 1971 Jim Palmer, Orioles Star Pitcher shutout the Indians on a stunning 3-hitter, 5-0. The Baltimore Orioles
became the 1st team since 1920 to have four pitchers win 20 games in a single season. Palmer joined Pat Dobson, Mike Cuellar and Dave McNally, all who had already won 20 games this year.
Senators Get OK to Move to Texas Owner Bob Short was given American League approval to move his
Washington Senators to the Dallas-Fort Worth area. The shifting of the baseball club will begin in time for the start of the 1972 season. Senators manager, Ted Williams stated, "I'll go with the team".
The new team will be renamed : The Texas Rangers Baseball Club.
Pirates Win World Series Vs Orioles 1971 The Pittsburgh Pirates took the 7th game on the fine pitching performance of Steve Blass, 2-1. This was his 2nd win of this series. Blass went the entire 9 innings
allowing only four hits to gain the victory. Pirate star right fielder Roberto Clemente powered a long bases empty homer in the fourth inning; his second of the series.
Hank Aaron Hits 700th Homer July 24, 1973, Atlanta Braves Star Left fielder, Henry Aaron hit a
2-run homer and became only the second baseball player to hit 700 career home runs. Aaron was closing in on the immortal Babe Ruth who has 714 lifetime homers. The Phillies beat the Braves 8-4. Phils pitcher
Ken Brett, brother of George, gave Aaron the pitch he wanted and he responded by blasting his 27th of the season.
